Wintertime at the Bosque del Apache is high season for migrating birds. You'll find thousands of sandhill cranes and snow geese uncountable. To that add Canadian geese, a multitude of duck varieties and bald eagles. A few other birds like the great blue heron, American kestrel, northern harrier and all sorts of hawks stay at the Bosque del Apache all year round.

The winter colors at the Bosque are amazing and the mixture of different grasses, willows, cottonwoods and water together with cold air and flocks of birds make the scenery look quite magical.  The sunsets are breathtaking almost every day.

Here is a small selection of my favorite images this winter. Click on a picture, it will enlarge and turn into a slideshow.
